Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Caminho

The date on which the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Caminho was built is unknown, although it is believed that it may have been constructed between the 18th and 19th centuries by the Dominican Friars who lived at the Monastery. It is a small Marian sanctuary, and inside there is an image of Our Lady of Consolation. Batalha's residents have an enormous amount of respect for this chapel, which has special emotional value and great religious significance. According to an old legend, the image of the Virgin Mary appeared by this chapel, and was taken to the Monastery. However, the image appeared several times in the same place, which led to this small chapel being built.
